Chapter 9

HOLDING DIFFERENCES SEEING OTHER VIEWPOINTS WITHOUT LOSING YOUR OWN

This chapter is focused on the truth #8 that clarifies how many people assume they have only the first two choices — to dominate or to submit. Susan explain us how there are going to be differences between humans but how to maintain our own point of view while considering others people views can help us to learned more about others and also that can help us to achieve our own goals. Instead of looking only our own opinion being open to listen others can help us to achieve the goals that I mention before in a better way, or also those opinions can help us to do what we want in a better way. Susan also called differences as a good starting place between people.

Others tools that are described in this chapter for learn the most we can for differences is learned to listen and to observed awareness of different kinds of situations.  This is a great tool because I have experiment that I have a point to demonstrate and other person wants me to listen the point of view of that person and because I have listen and observed that person I have created new ideas to the first point I want to communicate. During this years of university I have learned that we can learn more things sometimes listening and observing that only imposing what we believe is right.

At the end of the chapter Susan describes how “Life becomes a painful battle when you struggle against what is, including differences in perceptions and styles of relating. We create unnecessary suffering when we cannot accept our differences from others and the seemingly contradictory impulses within ourselves.”

That makes me reflect in how I am with the ones that doesn’t believe in what I do or think the same as I. I think that in this aspect I am very respectful and open with the others. I like to talk about the moral and economics values in which I believed but if someone didn’t share those values with me I try to respect that person as well because I consider that everyone in the world has their own liberty to choose and believe in what they want. If I has the chance to diffuse or help someone by sharing my own values and my own beliefs I do them whatever I can without being afraid of what others are going to think of me.
