Chapter V

Leading from within

“If our institutions are rigid, it is because our hearts fear change; if they set us in mindless competition with each other, it is because we value victory over all else; if they are heedless of human well being  it is because something in us is heartless as well”

Shadows and Spirituality

Good leadership comes from people who have penetrated their own inner darkness and arrived at the place where we are at one with one another, people who can lead the rest of its to a place of "hidden wholeness" because they have been there and know the way.

This quote that is here before gives the example of the point of this chapter. This chapter for me is very useful and I believe in working on my inner side to manage my outer side. The good leaders as the quote say are the ones that after manage and analyze their inner side they can be leaders because they have a pure heart without pain and a darkness side and if them recognize that they are having problems they look from help.

“Insecure teacher is forcing students to be passive stenographers of the teacher's store of knowledge, leaving the teacher with more sense of self hood and the vulnerable students with less.” This quote is an example of what happen when we doesn't work on our inner side.

Summering this chapter Parker demonstrate us that to be a good person that uses all the gifts that God have give to us and to avoid having big depressions and problems with the people that surround us we have to analyze and work in our inner darkness sides. For that he gave us some examples that the Quakers uses and that are the meetings with some of the group that asked question to the person that is having problem and that questions help the one that is having problems to work in his inner side. Having a good inner side is more easily to enjoy the gifts and life that God gave to us and also is more easily to become a good leader and good example in the society for the others that surround us.
