My Dreams

(Essay)

This essay was the one that I presented in the inauguration of the Michael Polanyi College at Antigua Guatemala in Casa Popenoe.

Ever since I had 13 years old I already had made the decision of what I was going to do with my life. After graduating from high school I was determined to study fashion design in Italy.

Before leaving to Italy I had eight months free and it was during that time where my dreams change or better said it was then when I found what I was really passionate about and what fulfilled me.

During those vacations I had the opportunity to work at “Un Techo para mi Pais” which opened my eyes to know what extreme poverty is in Guatemala. This was how I started to discover that being indoors drawing and sewing at the other side of the world was not what I was passionate about nor filled me anymore. That experience I lived thanks to the foundation changed my life and my professional aspirations. I now understand that my other aspirations were more about getting away from Guatemala without facing my family’s problems and myself.

Two weeks before leaving to Italy I took the decision of staying in Guatemala in order to study something in which I could help people that have not had the opportunities I have had. I decided to study Political Science for three semesters at UFM and I was mostly passionate about the libertarian ideas my professors taught us. But I knew that was not it.

It was at the same time I was still working in the foundation and studying at EPRI when I met my husband, with whom I share my believe in God, the libertarian economic principles and a passion for helping those in need.

It was after that when things became clearer for me and I knew that my dreams in life consisted of something with love, first to God, then to my husband and family and then for human kind. It consisted of helping others through Christian education together with libertarian economic principles to achieve freedom and personal responsibilities starting at home and then sharing it with those in need who have no access to these profound ideas of a living God and of freedom.

I am here today because MPC is a tool that would help me to achieve these dreams in a more professional but still passionate way.
